I've produced a series of my B&W limited edition prints on behalf of Destiny Scotland. They have recently opened 8 fabulous Edinburgh apartments on George IV Bridge by Greyfriars Bobby & the Elephant House cafe (Harry Potter).

Destiny Scotland:

Opened in July 2015, this stunning new development is located right off of the Royal Mile, just a stones throw from the Edinburgh Castle. Right in the heart of all that Edinburgh's Old Town has to offer, it is situated directly above the Elephant House Cafe, otherwise known as the "birth place of Harry Potter."

Many flats offer stunning views of the famous Greyfriars Kirkyard, the Edinburgh Castle, and the entire Old Town. Each apartment is fitted with a satellite flat-screen TV, free wireless internet, a fully stocked kitchen, linens, towels, an iron, and a hairdryer

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Unboxing December 12 2013, 0 Comments

Recently purchased the Blackmagic Pocket CInema Camera for evolving my video work I do now. This camera provides RAW DNG video - with a lot of post production workflow, however, the results speak for themselves when you can get 13 stops of dynamic range.

I've only had time to do some initial tests and work out my workflow - however, I've been able to shoot low light levels in a room and pan to a bright exterior view outside. In Adobe Bridge (rather than using Lightroom, and sadly I can't run DaVinci Resolve 10 on my Mac Mini) I've post processed two versions of the same video clip, correcting light temperature & exposure for both extreme lighting scales and blend the two clips in Final Cut Pro X.

I'm using lens adaptors to connect my Leica and wide angle lenses on the BMPCC. Hope to post future updates and video results soon.

Edinburgh City Art Centre Gallery July 30 2012, 0 Comments

I'm delighted to announce that the Edinburgh City Art Centre shop are stocking my Edinburgh Photography book, 'Edinburgh Reflections' again.

City Art Centre

Enjoy a visit to the City Art Centre, a main Edinburgh art gallery with one of the best collections of Scottish art. We show interesting exhibitions from our own collections and from all over the world. We can also tempt you with an attractive shop located on the ground floor.

The City Art Centre has a busy programme of exhibitions which change regularly to suit the interests of our visitors. People come to see favourites from the City’s nationally Recognised collection of Scottish art; new work from local or international artists or exhibitions from other countries. Exhibitions of historic and modern photography, contemporary art and design, architecture and the built environment are staged in a rolling programme.  We have shown Egyptian and Roman objects and even featured artwork and costumes from the Star Wars films.

Their current 2012 exhibition is Leslie Hunter available 21 July until 14 October 2012.

Exhibition:

George 'Leslie' Hunter (1877 - 1931) was one of a group of four artists now known collectively as The Scottish Colourists. Together, they were among the most influential Scottish artists of the 20th century.

Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm, Sunday 12pm - 5pm

Who is this for? - All
Dates:21 July 2012 - 14 October 2012
Cost: £5; £3.50 concessions

Although they never worked as a group and their art developed at different rates, there were times when the Colourist artists painted together in twos and threes in France or Iona. What they had in common was a love for bold colour in their painting. Their work revitalised Scottish art and has influenced succeeding generations of Scottish artists to this day.

This major exhibition comprises over fifty works of varying sizes by Hunter, and is drawn from public and private collections throughout the UK. As well as tracing the development of his work it gives full rein to its wonderful variety.

Earthy Foods & Goods Edinburgh November 10 2011, 0 Comments

I'm delighted to announce Earthy in Edinburgh are stocking my Edinburgh Photography Book. I'd highly recommend you visit for some lovely food, home-made cakes and great coffee. They even share their recipes. They also have a wide range of local, seasonal and organic produce, including fresh fruit and vegetables; meat, fish and dairy produce; breads, pastries, biscuits and cakes; pulses, pastas and grains, teas, coffees and a whole lot more.

About Earthy:

Over the past few years, we've spent our time getting to know some passionate people. Like us, they love their food. They're the growers and producers who put in that extra bit of effort. They transform the ordinary into something unique. They work with nature rather than against it and hand-craft amazing food. We've enjoyed sharing our knowledge with them and learning new things. Best of all, we've loved sampling produce that naturally tastes great. And the most important thing we've learned is how much more there is out there, waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. So here's to the artisans; the stubborn who refuse to accept mediocrity; the growers, the producers and the makers who all take pride in their work. And here’s to the fruits of their labour. Dig-in.

How to cut printers plates January 10 2011, 0 Comments

How do you cut aluminium print plates?

I was shown this really cool technique for cutting down aluminium litho printer plates. As the metal plates can be very sharp use extreme care, I can only imagine it will hurt more than a paper cut!

I wished to cut down all my printers plates from my recently 1st published book, Edinburgh Reflections. I've placed one of the printers plates into a 70x100cm frame. I really like the anodised aluminium effect you get on the metal, plus it's got sentimental value to me.

1. Use a metal ruler and sharp scalpel blade, you DON'T need to apply much pressure, just enough for the blade to score the metal surface. Do this the full length of the aluminium sheet.

2. Then start to waggle/bend the edge up and down (3rd image on right) - you should feel the metal fatigue, basically, the point of least resistance (where you made the slight score) should break apart/split as shown above.

3. Now, place the slightly scored part just over the edge of a table (first image) and pull down slowly on the aluminium piece that has split apart. it should come away fairly easily, you don't need to pull down too hard. if it's not working then you may not have scored deep enough and I suggest you go back and apply more pressure on your scalpel.

I cut down all 4 sides of 10 sheets and it worked every time with no problems. I've also got all fingers and thumbs intact, so please be careful as I take no responsibility if you end up having to count with your toes as a result of losing fingers.
