Taken from Blackford Hill near the Royal Observatory Edinburgh showing Edinburgh skyline, Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat on a Winters day.

The Royal Observatory, Edinburgh (ROE) is located on Blackford Hill in the south of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. It started as the Playfair Observatory, located on Calton Hill, and became the Royal Observatory during the visit of George IV to Scotland in 1822.

Blackford Hill (164 m) is a hill in the south of the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh, in the area of Blackford, near Morningside, The Grange, and the Braid Hills. The hill enjoys a clear view over Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle, and Arthur's Seat to the North. In the south you can also clearly see the Pentland Hills.

Edinburgh Castle is an ancient stronghold which dominates the sky-line of the city of Edinburgh from its position atop Castle Rock. It is Scotland's second-most-visited tourist attraction. Human habitation of the site is dated back as far as the 9th century BC. As it stands today though, few of the castle's structures pre-date the Lang Siege of the 16th century, with the notable exception of St Margaret's Chapel, the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh, which dates from the early 12th century.

Arthur's Seat is the main peak of the group of hills which form most of Holyrood Park, a remarkably wild piece of highland landscape in the centre of the city of Edinburgh, about a mile to the east of Edinburgh Castle. The hill rises above the city to a height of 251 m (823 feet), provides excellent panoramic views of the city, is quite easy to climb, and is a popular walk. Though it can be climbed from almost any direction, the easiest and simplest ascent is from the East, where a grassy slope rises above Dunsapie Loch.

Please Note: The print does not include a frame.
